Kilcoy SHS offers outstanding Vocational Education programs. Students have the opportunity to participate in quality learning programs, working towards certificates in the following subjects:

Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (School Delivered in partnership with TAFE QLD)

The Certificate II in Engineering Pathways course has been developed to provide students with the opportunity to undertake a broad-based, widely recognised vocational educational course as an integral part of their senior course of study. This course runs over one year (compressed delivery) and provides students an introduction into engineering trades.

Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot) (School Delivered in partnership with Aviation Australia)

In partnership with a CASA-approved RPAS training provider, Aviation Australia can offer the theoretical and operational (practical) training required to obtain your RePL and kick-start your drone career. Anyone can undertake remote pilot training, even if you have never flown a drone before. You will also receive your Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). This is an academic qualification which you can either use as a stand-alone set of skills or build on by gaining further aviation qualifications such as the Diploma of Aviation Management.

The Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot) provides you with important training to legally operate a remotely piloted aircraft. It will also allow you to fly without many of the weight or operating restrictions applied to recreational users.

Certificate II Public Safety (Fire Fighting Operations) (External Provider: QFES)

This program is only accessible to students 16 years of age and over.  Students are required to join a local brigade as a Registered Junior. All Personal Protective Equipment required is provided free of charge and all manuals and learning resources.  Participants are automatically covered by QFES Rural Operations insurance and WorkCover policies.  On completion of the qualification students become an active volunteer firefighter and earn four credits towards their QCE.

TAFE

TAFE Queensland offers the opportunity for high school students in year 10 (must be 14 years, 9 months), year 11 and year 12 a range of training options e.g., one day a week during the school term over two years to complete a Certificate II or Certificate III.

The benefits of undertaking these courses include:

  • Students have the opportunity to develop entry-level competencies required in the workplace and have these nationally recognised.
  • Successful completion of this certificate course will contribute QCE points.
  • Students wishing to enrol in related vocational educational and training (VET) on leaving school, will be eligible for appropriate credit towards courses offered in the same industry area by other VET providers such as TAFE.
  • Successful completion of selected certificate courses may also help  in accessing University through a Rank pathway.

School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships

School based traineeships and apprenticeships are actively supported by the school.  In most cases students need to find their own employer, however occasionally employers approach the school with opportunities.  To start the process of applying students are required to follow these steps:

  1. Develop a resume and cover letter.
  2. Complete the Expression of Interest form (DOCX, 57 KB) and fill in the employers details when known.
  3. Read the School Based Trainee and Apprenticeship handbook (PDF, 299 KB).
