Diverse Learning Centre

The Diverse Learning Centre (DLC) provides support to students in the classroom to ensure that all students have equal access to the curriculum in an inclusive environment. The Head of Department (HOD) for Diverse Learning is in charge of this centre and will allocate Case Managers and Teacher Aides to support students in their classroom with academic, social and emotional needs.

The students who are provided support from the DLC fall under the following categories:

Category     Description

​Students with Disabilities (SWD)

​Students verified following Education Queensland’s Education Adjustment Program (EAP) process under the following categories:-    Intellectual Disability (ID)-    Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)-    Speech Language Impairment (SLI)-    Visual Impairment (VI)-    Hearing Impairment (HI)-    Physical Impairment (PI)

​Learning Support (LS)

Students that are identified from analysing their individual achievement data at a school level.​

​English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)

​Students who have attended less than 3 years in non-English speaking schooling.


Role of a Case Manager:

  • Case management facilitates the overall support of students (SWD, Learning Support & EAL) in order that the students have access to and participate in school life to the best of their ability and achieve success.
  • Ensuring students identified goals and learning needs are incorporated into student’s mainstream program.
  • Be a knowledge base for classroom teachers and be a resource when it comes to classroom adjustments/modifications for tasks/assessments for the students.

Role of a Teacher Aide:

  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher in adjusting work to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Assisting teachers in the implementation of support programs as well as activities for students in the classroom.
  • Facilitating learning in the classroom by working with an individual or group of students (both DLC and other) identified as needing extra support to achieve learning outcomes.
