Welcome!
I am glad to introduce myself and have been tremendously lucky to be welcomed into the Kilcoy community this year as a source of guidance and support for Kilcoy State High School’s students.
Guidance Officers are employed by the Department of Education to assist students and their families to achieve their best outcomes. Guidance Officers are registered teachers with post-graduate qualifications in mental health and counselling.
Guidance Officers can help students in several different areas:
- personal: friends, family, personal relationships.
- health: supporting mental health and providing referrals for young people with ongoing mental health concerns. Discussing health body and mind practises with students.
- academic: subject selection, applying for tertiary courses, improving study skills, managing time, exam preparation and career pathways.
- work: characteristics of jobs, opportunities available, developing a suitable career path, applying for jobs, discussing suitable apprenticeships and traineeships.
Students and parents are welcome to make appointments with a Guidance Officer by contacting the administration office on (07) 54224343 or emailing ksank7@eq.edu.au. Sessions with the Guidance Officer are confidential unless the information received meets mandatory reporting requirements.
